LATHC participated in the 2008 Freemont West Coast
Team Handball Conference tournament hosted by Cal Heat
on February 2nd and 3rd. LATHC finished 2nd with tough
losses to Cal Heat and a hard fought victory over
Santa Clarita. LATHC was lead by great goaltending
from Diego Tsoulougian, solid defense and timely
scoring. Torsten Schultz provided solid defense up the
middle and Luis Palencia created several fast break
goals starting with steals on the defense end. Kyle
Krull played in his first tournament with LATHC and
provided 6 goals and 0 turnovers over the 4 games.
Jamil Abdalla and Michael Hinson lead the team in
scoring by providing several 9m shots and timely
breakthroughs. LATHC wants to thank Cal Heat for
hosting a great tournament and Santa Clarita for hard
fought, competitive contests.

Kretzsche, as the Germans call him, will join LATHC in the summer in time for the 07/08 pre-season and will arguably be one of the biggest addition to the LA team in recent years.

The XX Men’s World Championship ended presenting a dignified champion. Host Germany prevailed against Poland soaring to a 29:24 (17:13) victory following a thrilling final in front of 19,000 spectators at sold-out Kölnarena to gain the title for the third time after 1938 and 1978. “I am tremendously proud”, German head coach Heiner Brand said and added “proud of these fans and proud of this team.”

Already prior to the final, the high-ranked representatives as of the World Association (IHF) as of the German federation (DHB) had reported the positive course and outcome of the XX title contests. “We are very satisfied with the organisation and the course of the tournament”, IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa explained.

In the match for third place, Denmark had overcome France in the early afternoon 34:27 (21:15) to be third team to climb the rostrum. European champions France came off fourth.

LATHC will be playing playing an exhibition game with TH Santa Clarita at the Staples Center when the LA Avengers arena football team plays the Chicago Rush on Feb. 18th. The game will also be a fundraiser for both team handball clubs.

After a short demo at half-time, LATHC and Santa Clarita will play a full court exhibition game in the Staples Center, after the football game.

Come have a great night with your family watching two of the most exciting sports around and help support your favorite team handball club. The Avengers were a play-off team in the Arena league last year with one of the highest scoring offenses (Arena football games have regular scores in the 50s and 60s). After that you get to see the two best team handball teams in the west square off.

Come on out and see the Avengers and then cheer on LATHC as we play in the Staples Center!!!
