King Team Handball League: Week One |

Bellflower, CA - The King Team Handball league had a very successful opening weekend on Saturday November 8th, 2008 at the Hollywood Sports Park. The league is very unique as it is the first of its kind in the Los Angeles area and the only current weekly league in the United States. The inaugural season is composed of 4 teams made up from various clubs around the Los Angeles area. Team Handball is an Olympic sport encompassing various skills of basketball, football and baseball. With the United States missing out of the 2008 Olympics, there has been a ground swell of new athletes that are committed to improve the US National Team. The league is composed of 9 weeks of regular season games and 2 weeks of playoffs. With US National Team tryouts schedules for late March, the league is an invaluable tool to develop the athletes and allow everyone the opportunity to experience the physical, fast paced sport of team handball.
First week action was intense and very competitive. Team Anything is Possible defeated Team Bom Handebol 36-29. Team Anything is Possible was lead by the Player of the Week Mathieu Chassignet. Chassignet ended up with 16 strong goals and lead a vicious fast paced counterattack against Team Bom Handebol. The winning team also found strong support from Tuan Bui with 8 goals and numerous jaw-dropping moves. Team Bom Handebol had strong efforts from Jesper Malmskov (9 goals) and Orentheus Hutcherson (6 goals).
On the other court, The People�s Champs fell just short against Team Mavericks in a tightly contested contest 40-38. Team Mavericks had a wide spread attack with everyone getting involved. Mika Maunula lead the way with 15 goals, but also received a strong effort from Daniel Osborne with 10 goals. Strong efforts were made on the losing end with solid play and picks form Hayden Fulstone opening up several opportunites for Patrick Truninger and his 19 goals. Overall the game saw several lead changes with Team Mavericks holding on at the end.
